I didn’t really understand the points John Bevere made aboit the rich ruler, like he said the ruler would represent himself in the other countries in a humble way that sounded more prideful to me though, and if we are supposed to act and represent God the way he described it, it almost sounded like a snot-nosed brat.
۳ “I have a dream…” (Your favorite message from the chapter was… and why):
How Christianity has become irreverent to God because it is too sugar coated, and isn’t real anymore, just luke warm.
۳ The Portrait (How is this relevant, what does it look like to you)?
I’m torn between the two above questions I don’t want to be an arrogant Christian to the world, but I cannot live a luke warm lifestyle because it’s not in me. So all I know to do is to run the race doing everything I can to represent God to the world, trying my best to simply be like Him. I should probably do a bible study on what that means.
۳ I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! (What were the emotions or feelings you had during your read and why did you have them)?
When I read the chapter I felt confused, because I wanted to be real, and really represent Christ, but confused because we are supposed to be humble, and I haven’t made the connection yet because John Bevere made it sound like arrogance, so I’m confused really.
۳ My Life is just like that! (Do you have any stories that relate to what happened?)
I know that I tried to preach once in speech class, but it was luke warm and the affect on the class was a negative one. So I know when I am luke warm I fall short for God, and when I’m fired up and real for God and don’t really care as much for what the people around me think, God blesses that.
۳ Counsel of the Holy (Scripture used):
• What verses did the author use?
o Ps. 89:6-7; John 1:10-11; Isaiah 29:13; Gen. 3:5; Ps. 71:19; Exo 32:1,4-5; Rom. 1:20-21,23; Acts 23:5; Num. 14:21
• When you looked them up, did they fit what the author was saying?
o The verses did, some of the situations however sounded a little specific to the Israelites and their situations, but our situations are very similar.
• What other verses would you have added to the author’s verses to make his point or refute his point?
o
۳ Grandfather Time and the Lady of Wisdom (What do you already know, that relates to this and gives you more of the picture on what happened)
God has never called us to be luke warm, His miracles have been carried out by men and women who were zealous for Him, David was called a man after God’s own heart, partially because he did everything 100 percent.
۳ Devotion Emotion through Revolution and Revelation (Did you change? Did your view or walk with God change?)
I was reminded of how I am to live
• What in this chapter made you hungrier for God?
o Living 100 %
• What in this chapter convicted you of your sin?
o Spiritual arrogance and thinking we are great because God uses us, when all the time it is all God
• What in this chapter provoked you to action?
o That conviction, and my relationship with God
hey, ex_nihilo! What a great time of prayer last night! It was great to be back with you guys.
Regarding your comments on chapter 2, I agree with your struggles regarding the humility of the Christian. Why don't you make that your next Bible study when you're done with the zeal of the Lord!
Continue to seek God regarding being bold for Him. Remember that our ambition is to honor Him and to point people to Him. Where is the balance between people shutting you down because you're a religious fanatic and people standing up and taking note that you're not ashamed of God.
Continue to strive to live 100% for God!

Fear of the Lord
9 The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the LORD are sure
and altogether righteous. “Psalm 19:9 (New International Version)”
Psalm 19:9 (New Living Translation)
9 Reverence for the LORD is pure,
lasting forever.
The laws of the LORD are true;
each one is fair.
Fear of God
Psalm 36:1 (New International Version)For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. 1 An oracle is within my heart
concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: [a]
There is no fear of God
before his eyes.
Psalm 36:1 (New Living Translation) For the choir director: A psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. 1 Sin whispers to the wicked, deep within their hearts.
They have no fear of God at all.
Fear the Lord
Psalm 15:4 (New International Version) 4 who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts
Psalm 15:4 (New Living Translation)
4 Those who despise flagrant sinners,
and honor the faithful followers of the LORD,
and keep their promises even when it hurts.
Fear God
Psalm 66:16 (New International Version) 16 Come and listen, all you who fear God;
let me tell you what he has done for me.
Psalm 66:16 (New Living Translation) 16 Come and listen, all you who fear God,
and I will tell you what he did for me.
The fear of the Lord is directly related to reverence in the first instance I found. That’s crazy sweet, because of reverence producing so many of the things fear does, because it is a fear of missing the presence of whomever it is you fear. These scriptures emphasize that the fear of the Lord is what the righteous do. It’s for those who want to spend more time with God, because God shows Himself to those who show reverence and truly recognize who He is for what He is. No real instructions except to try to understand how awesome God is, and to put that view into our lives as our relationship with God grows. We fear the Lord because of how great He is and how much we love Him, we fear Him because we want to be closer to Him. This is what happens if we don’t fear God.
12 See how the evildoers lie fallen—
thrown down, not able to rise! Psalms 36:12
I need to set time in my God time to show Him my Fear of Him, to show Him reverence. Before I enter my room I always check my heart to make sure I’m not bringing anything into my room that I wouldn’t want in my room spiritually, that would be a good time to show reverence as well.
