MY ANSWERS
Analyze
. The stories, and conviction of reverance of God, and the results of that reverance
. I didn't question any of it
Scripture
. The verses fit
. I would have added anything with zeal
Spiritually interact
. The glory of the Lord, and wanting more of Him, made me hungrier
. Showing God Reverance is what convicted me and that His presence would only be available if we are reverent
. I was provoked to be reverent in the presence of an almighty God, who absolutely loves me, and that fear of not being close kills me

ex-nihilo,
thanks for your comments on the first chapter of Bevere's The Fear of the Lord. I'm delighted to see that you love this book so much! In your enthusiasm, please make sure that you are diligent in examining things through the light of Scripture and valuing what those who are older and farther down the road than you are are putting in front of you. The poeple in the town of Berea questioned Paul's message, not through emotion, but through a careful and diligent daily examination of the Scriptures (Acts 17:11). Be a Berean, ex-nihilo!
Be a thinking Christian. When it comes to studying God's Word, question it so that you may understand what the Holy Spirit it teaching you through His Word. When it comes to books written outside of the Bible, FIRST question whether every concept is consistant with Scripture, then IF it is, question (with the help of the Holy Spirit) what that means for you.
Thank you for your suggestions regarding further questions. I agree that the questions need to be ramped up a bit. I will work to incorporate those in the next unit.
How is your study of the Fear of the Lord in Proverbs coming?
Bless you!
k for the bible study in Proverbs here is my summary:
If you are wise, and seek wisdom, and seek success and want to be righteous and want to "walk" with God, you must first fear the Lord. In almost every verse I found with the key words in Proverbs there was the mention of wisdom. In a lot of the verses the Fear of the Lord was the root of wisdom. There was also a significant difference between the Fear of wrath and the fear of being seperated from God.
What i found really interesting was the "the" in most every case, before "fear" which makes it a noun. The key words that I looked up in verb form still popped up in noun form in Proverbs. Here are the definitions in the noun instance of Fear1. a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
2. a specific instance of or propensity for such a feeling: an abnormal fear of heights.
3. concern or anxiety; solicitude: a fear for someone's safety.
4. reverential awe, esp. toward God.
5. that which causes a feeling of being afraid; that of which a person is afraid: Cancer is a common fear.
And then i looked up solicitude:
"an attitude expressing excessive attentiveness"
That's what God wants from us, He wants us to be excessively attentive to Him, because we fear. We fear to be away from His presence. Paul erged us to be in constant prayer, because Paul knew that it was a constant connection with God which made us hunger Him more, giving us the Fear of the Lord. If we would just be solicitous to God, constantly attentive, yes being afraid of His wrath, but even more terrified of being seperated from Him, because we want more of Him, which i think is the root to all wisdom...
i do wonder why John Bevere hasn't mentioned anything about wisdom, he's talking about what happens when you have fear of the Lord, but he hasn't pointed any of that to wisdom like in Proverbs.
ex_nihilo, I was just looking through Proverbs today in MyTime regarding the fear of the Lord and the Lord used it to show me that my fear of Him leads to me relying on Him to be my defends and protector and that if I fear Him, my kids will find their refuge in Him!!! very cool!
Hey, GREAT obeservation of Bevere thus far. What DO you find about the relationship between the Fear of the Lord and Wisdom?
B
You need to say your verses to me and provide me a couple of sentence reflection on each passage.
